Meet Kayla

Portland Oregon Wedding, Engagement and Family Photographer

I love photography which is natural, light-filled, minimally processed, meaningful and sincere.

I’m a wedding and lifestyle photographer here in Portland, Oregon serving the Portland metro area and beyond. I love what unique locations and the pure beauty of nature bring to photographs. And I’ve always looked at the world and people in a creative, introspective way. You could say I look at life through a lens even when I’m not behind the camera. (I am behind the camera 24/7 now that I have my own little one! The photo below of Liam and I was made when he was 6 months old.)

I love most every photographic style: modern, vintage, retro, timeless, colorful or subdued. If you would like your photographs to breathe a certain style, we can definitely make it happen because I’ve done it all. If you’re not sure of the exact style you like, all I need is to meet you, hear your thoughts and we can plan ideas which you’ll love. Please contact me and ask any questions about how we can dream up the perfect photos for you. Nothing makes me happier than a new opportunity to create a stunning set of shining memories.

Helping Others

I believe that you should give back whenever possible to those who need a helping hand. I have done volunteer photography for the American Lung Association and Second Harvest Food Bank. I’ve also done photography at events which have benefited Houndhaven, Pet Rescue by Judy, and Harbor House. Recently, I donated a photo session in a silent auction to help a teacher in need at Kids R Kids school in Apopka.

More About Me

I grew up in a beautiful place in northern Mississippi among pine trees, magnolia blooms, trumpet vine and honeysuckle. I learned to ride my bike on a dirt road and spent days outside exploring creeks, inspecting wild strawberries and making dandelion chains. My memories are like pictures in my mind that I wish were all real photographs. As the only child of my wonderful parents, I think the moments of entertaining myself and feeding my imagination helped shape how I see the world.

When I was ten years old I bought my first camera during a field trip to a museum in Memphis, Tennessee. It was a simple and inexpensive camera which used 110 film. Digital cameras for consumers were not around in 1995 but they were not so far away. By the time I graduated high school, I was the proud owner of a Sony Cybershot 3.2 megapixel camera. Although I’m a Nikon lady now, my first DSLR was a Canon. My current camera is a Nikon D800 and my backup camera is a Nikon D700. But I’ll never forget that first tiny camera and being the only kid interested in buying one at the museum gift shop.

Now let’s talk about one of the best days of my life: my wedding. (Of course, the absolute best day is when my son Liam was born in 2012, (update: AND when Gavin was born in 2015) but we’ll save those interesting pictures for later!) Daniel and I were married on July 25, 2009 at the Maitland Art Center in Maitland, Florida. Our reception was at Hannibal’s wine cellar in Winter Park, Florida. We planned our small, thirty guest wedding in about three months. I’ll let these pictures do the rest of the talking. I always feel like I know someone a lot better when I see their wedding photos!
